As part of Discovery Communications’ ongoing commitment to protect endangered species and educate the world’s population about the dangers of illegal wildlife trafficking, today the company released a powerful PSA at the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). Narrated by actor Edward Norton, the PSA is a partnership between Discovery Communications and the U.S. Wildlife Trafficking Alliance, in conjunction with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) and will air on Discovery’s channels in the U.S. next month; locally customized versions will roll out on Discovery’s global networks shortly thereafter.

The joint announcement is representative of a larger partnership between organizations that fight tirelessly to protect endangered species and encourage an end to wildlife trafficking.

“Stopping the slaughter of some of the world’s most magnificent creatures requires a global effort,” said David J. Hayes, chair of the U.S. Wildlife Trafficking Alliance. “But we must start here at home. Our partners are crucial to this effort. When Discovery joined our Alliance, it committed to help educate consumers – and this PSA will make a major impact by showing people that they have the power to stop the killing.”

In addition to the release of the PSA at CITES, Discovery has made its mark at the global conference through a dual-screen Digital Walkway where guests can morph into their kindred species, supporting the United Nations’ Wild for Life campaign.

Discovery is proud to support this joint effort to end wildlife trafficking and educate the world about the importance of these endangered species. To see more of CITES check out the photos below. Follow @DiscoveryComm on Twitter and join the conversation using #BuyInformed.
